Genre: Mystery
Age: 7+
Description: Joe Sherlock loves solving mysteries so much everyone, including his parents, just call him Sherlock. In his first case, The Haunted Toolshed, a bunch of weird things are happening to Mr. Asher—Bundt cakes are taken from his kitchen window, his mailbox disappears, his mother cant stop farting, and he believes his toolshed is haunted because of the mysterious noises coming from it. Can Joe solve the mystery?
Opinion: I picked up these books because of the Sherlock Holmes angle as I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and I enjoy reading books that play on that theme. I loved these books. Joe Sherlock is great for kids who like mysteries and especially for boys due to some instances of gross/crude humor. The text is a non-traditional font (kind of like handwriting but not) that adds to the fun atmosphere of the series while illustrations adorn nearly every page. The books are around 120 pages with a lot of short chapters (usually around 30) which are usually two to three pages long. The humor is hilarious and it is fun to see Joe get outshined by his annoying younger sister but in the end he always saves the day and solves the mystery.
