Realistic, Humor
Age: 7+
Description:
Ellie’s family is moving and she has to be the new kid at a new school. Her
older sister and brother have no trouble fitting right in, but Ellie finds
herself stuck with teachers who can’t remember her name and kids who play a
cruel game of “New Kid Bingo” behind her back. When Ellie begins to lead a
nonviolent protest against the long lines at lunch and the food in general,
friendships might not be too far behind.
Opinion:
The Ellie books are hilarious and fun. Written in a fancy typeface for
handwriting and crammed with lots of illustrations and doodles by “Ellie” the
journal style really helps get you inside of Ellie’ head and makes you really
feel for her, including all her frustrations, insecurities, nervousness, and
sibling drama.
