Description:
Rebecca and Max are trapped in the Other World of shadows. Luckily, they were
saved from creepy tentacle monsters by an unnamed warrior woman. They hope that
Theo and Noah will be able to open the doorway again but unbeknown to them
Theo and Noah are having some difficulties as the project got broken. Luckily,
the two boys manage to make it through the portal somehow and find the helpers,
including the old man and Ilvanna, who helped Max and Rebecca. Unfortunately,
Noah gets whacked by a Shadow Spy and is experiencing a sickness that is
spreading. Meanwhile, Max and Rebecca get lost in the Shadow Forest
without shelter for the night. Theo, Noah, and Ilvanna are rescued from a horde
of Shadow Spies by Doleann, the warrior woman who, on her dragon, helps them
catch up to Mac and Rebecca. Theo gets knocked out by a weird butterfly and
begins to suffer from odd visions. In the morning, they find Ilvanna crying on
top of an old tall building with the Master of Shadows.
Opinion: The Elsewhere Chronicles is an
interesting premise but in graphic novel format the story really doesn’t come
off—it actually would be better as a novel. The world building is just missing.
There are too many questions—why is Rebecca important to these people, how did
she really get her scar when she was younger, what really causes the horrible
memories she has from her childhood? I found out later that there are
additional volumes of this Belgium
import so hopefully these nagging questions get answered. The art is fun but
too dark at times to actually decipher what is going on.
